Reclamation of Entitlement Vernacular, or, “He Can Get It”

09/05/2016

A man who doesn’t steal my jokes and insights to pick up other women can get it

A man who understands male entitlement with an eye on subverting it can get it

A man who doesn’t manspread and mansplain while I’m trying to talk can get it

A man who doesn’t use his privilege to degrade women can get it

A man who respects my strength can get it

A man who understands my art and work can get it

If you see me as more than just a pleasure object, you can get it

A man who is not a bigot can get it

A man who recognizes a woman is the embodiment of a soul can get it

If you can care about something other than yourself, you can get it

If you’re honest and sincere, you can get it

If you respect me, sometimes indicated by the absence of telling me to “respect myself,” you can get it

A man who wants to smash patriarchy, not just for me, for himself can get it

If you’re secure enough in yourself to love me for me, you can get it

If I want to be with you: you can get it.
