We both collapse at the same time
and upon awakening into
an uncanny network of live lights,
we see the tightrope
turning into razor wire.
Heavy voltage electricity through
which another new life form
might emerge. A flying guillotine
with flames for hands. A pet
that nobody can handle.
A pinch on the kangaroo pouch
turns a cocoon into a hurricane
which a gorgon with lengthy curls
is spitting into someone else's
hip flask. Broken hip bones
have strength too, but only for
those of us willing to bargain with
what is just outside of our reach.
Love can be hard to believe in
when you keep on losing it,
but listen. Even if you falter,
even if you fall off this tightrope,
I will keep you alive.
